CLIL Art History propone moduli riguardanti argomenti di storia dell’arte dalle origini a oggi. Ogni modulo presenta la stessa struttura: attività che permettono di recuperare ciò che già si conosce e di presentare il nuovo argomento (Warm up); un Brainstorming su quello che già si conosce e quello che si vorrebbe apprendere sull’argomento; attività finalizzate a sviluppare abilità di listening, reading, speaking e writing (Input e Materials). Tutti gli esercizi e le strategie didattiche usate nei moduli sono finalizzati all’attività finale (Final Task), in cui si richiede la creazione di un prodotto che deve essere illustrato o comunicato.

Teachers may decide that one of the two activities can be completed by the students on their own. ACTIVITY 3.b Listen to the recording and take notes in order to complete the timeline below. Crete From 1900 to 1905 the British scholar Sir Arthur Evans brought to light a group of buildings containing original works of art, on the island of Crete. He uncovered a vast complex of interlinking rooms, similar to a labyrinth, with mural paintings of bulls and bull jumpers. Sir Evans concluded that the palace was the Labyrinth, the royal residence of the mythical King Minos. This is the reason why he called the people of Crete Minoans, and Minoan their civilisation. The oldest signs of inhabitants on Crete are some ceramic Neolithic remains that date back to ca. 7000 B.C. The beginning of the Bronze Age, around 3100 B.C., marks the beginning of Crete as an important center of civilisation. Minoan artifacts have been traced as far back as 3000 B.C., and some even earlier, but the great period of the Minoans started in the 2nd millennium B.C., between the years 2000 and 1700 B.C. This was a period contemporary with the Empire in Egypt and the Babylonian period in Mesopotamia. It is known as the Period of the Early Palaces. Around 1700 B.C. there was a catastrophe in Crete which was probably provoked by an earthquake, although an invasion from Turkey has also been suggested. After that event the population increased again, and the palaces of Knossos, Phaistos and Malia were restored to their former splendour, perhaps even greater. This is called the Period of the Late Palaces. Around 1450 B.C., the palaces were destroyed again. Sometime later, around 1420 B.C., the island was conquered by the Mycenaeans. After this, most Cretan cities and palaces went into decline. However, the Knossos Palace remained until 1200 B.C.
