CLIL Art History propone moduli riguardanti argomenti di storia dell’arte dalle origini a oggi. Ogni modulo presenta la stessa struttura: attività che permettono di recuperare ciò che già si conosce e di presentare il nuovo argomento (Warm up); un Brainstorming su quello che già si conosce e quello che si vorrebbe apprendere sull’argomento; attività finalizzate a sviluppare abilità di listening, reading, speaking e writing (Input e Materials). Tutti gli esercizi e le strategie didattiche usate nei moduli sono finalizzati all’attività finale (Final Task), in cui si richiede la creazione di un prodotto che deve essere illustrato o comunicato.

Teachers may decide that one of the two activities can be completed by the students on their own. ACTIVITY 3.b Listen to the recording and take notes in order to identify the main parts of the Roman villa. The City of Pompeii In the 8th century B.C. the ancient Greeks settled in the region around Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. The site of Pompeii and the surrounding area offered the advantages of having a favourable climate and rich volcanic soil, which allowed the agricultural activity to flourish, particularly that of olives and grapes. In the 1st century A.D., Pompeii was located about 5 miles from the mountain and it was a wealthy town and resort for Rome s most distinguished citizens. The Roman town of Pompeii covered approximately 3 square kilometres but the outer suburbs were also densely populated. There were also hundreds of farms and around 100 villas in the surrounding countryside. The population of the town was estimated to be between 10 and 12,000 inhabitants. The town presented an astonishing mix of several thousand buildings including shops, villas, modest houses, temples, taverns, an exercise ground, baths, an arena, public latrines, a market hall, schools, a basilica, brothels and theatres. There were hundreds of small shrines to praise all kinds of deities and ancestors, and around 40 public fountains.
