The General Conference of the Unesco meeting in 1972 defined as Cultural and Natural World Heritage the sites of outstanding universal value from the point of view of history, art, natural beauty or science, and established the ten criteria that a site has to meet to be included in the list. In 2008 Unesco established also its Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage to ensure the protection of important cultural traditions worldwide. Examples of intangible heritage related to food are the French cuisine, the Mediterranean diet, the traditional Mexican cuisine, Washoku (Japanese cuisine), the Turkish ceremonial tradition of Keskek, the ancient Georgian method for the production of wines (Qvevri) and other typical preparations.
